Digital X Ray

Digital x-rays are quickly becoming adopted by a large percentage of the dental industry. A digital x-ray allows the dentist to take an image of the tooth or teeth and put it into an imaging program. Within this imaging program, there are a number of tools that will allow the dentist to take a very close look at the teeth and surrounding structures with amazing accuracy. As a benefit to the patient, the digital x-ray also provides nearly 80% less radiation than a standard x-ray. This is due to the fact that the digital version of the x-ray is much more sensitive to this radiation and has been specifically designed with the patient in mind.

Our office utilizes Schick 33 Sensors to capture immediate digital intra-oral views of the teeth and jaw bone. These images are superb in quality and are efficiently emailed to the patient, insurance companies, and dental specialists.

The addition of 3D Cone Beam CT Imaging to his general/cosmetic/implant dentistry practice with the Sirona XG3D digital 2D/3D imaging system will provide the ultimate digital capacity for his patients. As of June 2014, Dr. Goodspeed is only one of three general dentists in the greater Birmingham area who utilizes this technology.

On the 2 Dimensional level, the XG3D offers consistent and exquisite panoramic, TMJ, and extra-oral bitewing views (no bulky intra-oral films or sensors!) with about 1/3 the radiation of the old style analog panorex.

On the 3 Dimensional level, Dr. Goodspeed can take an overall 8 X 8 cm view or focus on sinuses, TMJ, airway, or either jaw. This 3D scan generates about the same radiation dose as the old analog panorex with volumes more information and detail, but it uses around 10 X less radiation than a comparable CAT Scan. The 3D scan can be used to combine with intra-oral 3D scans of teeth and gums to precisely plan implant placement for crown and bridge with his Sirona Cerec CAD/CAM system.

Because all of this is digital, our office has discarded the processor and harsh chemicals of the old fashion developing of films. We are now kinder to our environment!

Call today to schedule the ultimate digital experience. Dr. Barry E. Goodspeed,

Central Dentistry, PC, 2901 Central Ave., Homewood, AL, 35209, (205) 870-1363.
